Antenatal and Postnatal Care

Antenatal care

As soon as you find out you are pregnant please make an appointment with a Doctor. At this initial appointment you will be expected to provide the date of your last menstrual period. The Doctor will take a history and examine you including your blood pressure (no internal examination is required) then help you choose where you would like to have your baby.

You will be informed about booking appointments and ultrasound scans.

Carolyn, our Midwife from Kingston Hospital (Link to Maternity Services Website), runs her ante-natal clinics every Thursday from 1.30pm – 3.45pm. Antenatal care is shared between the Doctors and the Midwife. Our Doctors do not perform home deliveries. Carolyn would be happy to discuss home delivery and other preferences.

Postnatal checks

Postnatal – Following the birth of your baby, all mothers should have a check-up at 6 weeks. All of our doctors can undertake your post-natal check. This is a good opportunity to ask the doctor any questions you may have about your progress. The doctor will discus many aspects about the postnatal period, take your blood pressure, perform any necessary examinations and discuss contraception.

We like to allow more time (20 minutes) for these appointments. Please ensure you advise reception when booking.

The baby development checks are not part of the postnatal check. These are performed at the developmental clinic by appointment (see page).

Baby Immunisations

Baby immunisations are normally done by our nurse Sue Millroy on Wednesday mornings from 10.30 to 12.30 and Thursday afternoons from 2pm to 4pm. See Immunisations page

We find this a convenient time as it coincides with the walk in baby clinic run by the Health Visitors. You are free to book at other times for maximum flexibility but please inform the receptionist that the appointment is for baby immunisation.
