The Back Office

Repeat Prescriptions

These are processed by practice staff using our Vision computer system. From time-to-time all medications are reviewed by the GPs and re-authorised. The re-authorisation process will sometimes delay the issue of a prescription. The GP may wish to review the patient prior to a repeat prescription. You will be notified should this be necessary either by telephone, if urgent, or usually by a note attached to your Repeat Prescription request form.
Please do not ignore the reminders to see the Doctor or Nurse.

We will endeavour to turn around your repeat prescription request in 2 working days.

Please do not leave it until you have run out of medication before ordering more (especially just before you go on holiday).

The Repeat prescription form has a list of your medication. Please indicate the items required clearly. If you have discontinued an item please make a note on the request form. Thank you.

New!!! Order Repeat Prescriptions online. Use our web site form here.

Collection of Prescriptions

Some of the local chemists offer to collect your prescription from the surgery and have it ready for you to collect from them. A home delivery service is provided by most of the local chemists. Please indicate your preference on the order form. Link to List of local pharmacies

Hospital Prescriptions

Hospital Out-patient clinics should issue you with a prescription for medication that your Consultant wishes you to be treated with. On some occasions the Consultant will issue you with a letter to bring back to the Surgery requesting that the GP writes the prescription. This process is especially true it a patient attends a private clinic. Please allow 2 working days for processing of the prescription request.

Please Note: As the legal responsibility for the treatment lies with the Doctor signing the prescription, Therefore it is up to that Doctor whether to prescribe the medication . Your GP may not be willing to issue a prescription for some medication suggested by a Specialist.

Test Results

If you have had a test the doctor or nurse will have advised you on when to contact the surgery for the result. Usually this is 4-5 days for a blood test and 2 weeks for an X-ray result. Some tests take longer. Please telephone after 2.30pm for results as the telephone is quieter and our results come in at lunch-time. We will not routinely inform you of your result. If the Doctor considers it necessary to contact you we will telephone or write to you. Please ensure we have a current telephone number on our records.

Letters

Letters from our local hospitals are delivered daily by courier. Staff distribute these to the appropriate GP. Once actionned and highlighted for coding they are scanned into the computer system. We endeavour to process the correspondence as quickly as possible. Please be patient if you want to enquire about a recent visit to hospital as it can take a while for the letter to reach us (the current record is six months!)

Private referral letters should be collected from reception. We prefer you to deliver these to the consultant at your appointment rather than risk it being lost en route.

Queries

If you have any queries regarding an aspect of administration e.g. patient registration. We advise you to telephone in the late morning or afternoon and ask to speak to the Receptionist or Practice Manager.
