The coffee mornings held during our two Flu Clinics raised at total of £540

A BIG " Thank you" to all those who bought, made and sold the tea, coffee and cakes!

Over 400 get a Flu Jab!

We held our first Flu clinic on Saturday 15th October. Over 400 patients, young and old, got jabbed.

The coffee morning in aid of Princess Alice Hospice raised nearly £300!

All patients 65 and over had their pulse checked for Atrial Fibrillation. We will be inviting new cases identified with an irregular pulse back for an ECG.

Flu Jab Clinics 2011

Seasonal Flu Vaccine clinic dates this year are 15th October and 12th November. Both Saturdays 8.30 - 12.30 and coffee mornings in aid of Princess Alice Hospice. If you are in an "at risk" group please call reception (after 4pm) to book your Jab.

Giggs Hill Patient Link

We are in the process of starting up our new Patient Participation group. See the dedicated page here

Giggs Hill Patient Link held a coffee morning at the surgery on Saturday 2nd July 10.00 – 12.30. Report to follow.

Nurse Anstice Wadia Retires

Nurse Anstice has retired after nearly 20 years as our Practice Nurse. She joined us while we were at the Home of Compassion as a receptionist while she did her "back to nursing" course. She will be greatly missed by staff and patients. We wish her a happy retirement.

Her replacement is Nurse Marian Bennett who has come to join us from Oxshott.

Flu Jab update 17th Jan 2011

We have managed to obtain a small supply of Seasonal Flu Vaccine (well done Caroline)! If you are in an "at risk" group and have not had a Flu Jab then please call reception to book your Jab.

New Telephone System

This week (4th Jan) we have installed a new telephone system. Not a moment too soon, as our old system recently blew a circuit board.

We are sorry for any inconvenience it has caused but we have had to install and commisssion it while "live". You will notice new features such as dedicated extensions for appointments, prescriptions and results. It should allow us to cope with our ever increasing demand. Please be patient while we iron out the bugs and fine tine it.

Flu Jabs!

During September to November 2010 we jabbed an extra 200 patients with the seasonal Flu jab and had to order more vaccine but have now run out of vaccine.

We are trying very hard (as is every other local GP practice) to obtain more supplies. If you are in an "at risk" group and have not had a Flu Jab then please let reception know. We will call you when we have supplies.

Please keep an eye on the web site for news.

Dr Tina Rajapakse is joining us!

We are pleased to announce that Dr Rajapakse will start as a salaried GP in January 2011. For some months we have had a number of locum doctors at Giggs Hill Surgery. The appointment of Dr Rajapakse as a part-time GP will help us cope with what is turning out to be a very busy winter!

New Smoking Cessation Clinics

Our Practice Nurse Anstice runs our smoking cessation clinic. If you want to quit smoking she will counsel you and help you choose the best aid to quit from many the patches and pills etc. You will set a quit date and be followed up with counseling and carbon monoxide level monitoring.

It is proven that more people quit with the support of a health professional than on their own. Try us!

The appointments are flexible so please ask for a time that better suits you if you like. If you are unsure whether to attend please telephone nurse Anstice for guidance.

NHS Bowel Cancer Screening Programme

The Bowel Cancer screening programme has been rolled out in our part of Surrey.

Bowel cancer is the second most common cause of cancer deaths in the UK. Research has shown that screening men and women for bowel cancer using a Faecal Occult Blood (FOB) test can reduce the mortality rate from bowel cancer by 16 per cent in those invited for screening. The programme follows successful pilot studies in Coventry, North Warwickshire and Scotland.

The NHS Bowel Cancer Screening Programme aims to invite the group of men and women who will benefit most from a population-based screening programme. Men and women aged between 60 and 69 will be invited.

Men and women aged 60-69 and registered with a GP will be offered an FOB test every two years. Those aged 70 and over will not be invited automatically but can request a test kit by calling a Freephone helpline on 0800 707 60 60

GPs are not directly involved in the delivery of the NHS Bowel Cancer Screening Programme but they will be notified when invitations for bowel cancer screening are being sent out in their area. They will also receive a copy of the results letters sent to their patients. Please do not contact the surgery.
